Phantom Blade Zero follows Soul, an assassin framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch and kept alive by a temporary cure. Official material also names figures such as Mo Yuan, but the complete cast and their campaign relationships are not public. This index records only identities and roles supported by primary material, then routes deeper, spoiler-aware detail to one canonical page per character.

How to use the character index

Open a profile when you need the character’s stated role, faction evidence, first official context, and player-facing relevance. Profiles will put early-premise information before spoilers and label later campaign revelations by chapter or event. If two translations use different spellings, both names should point to one canonical route rather than creating duplicate biographies.

The Dex is not a relationship chart built from trailer editing. Two characters appearing in adjacent shots do not prove alliance, chronology, or family connection. A weapon style also does not establish a school or faction unless the game or developer says so.

Soul’s confirmed objective

Soul begins as an elite assassin under The Order. He is framed for murdering its patriarch, suffers a fatal wound during the pursuit, and receives a temporary cure from a mysterious healer. The cure leaves 66 days to identify the conspirators and seek a permanent solution.

This gives the player three reliable motivations: survive, investigate the frame-up, and resolve the cure. It does not prove a real-time calendar mechanic. The Soul profile explains how to interpret the premise without turning a story number into an unsupported system.

Factions and affiliation labels

An affiliation field should reflect a specific point in the story. “The Order at the outset” is more accurate for Soul than a permanent allegiance, because the frame-up changes his relationship to the organization. A character can also cooperate temporarily without joining a faction.

When the retail story is available, profiles should cite the scene or document behind an affiliation and keep spoiler-heavy changes in a separate section. This lets a new player use the index without seeing an end-state label in the first card.

Combat roles versus story roles

FieldMeaningEvidence standard
Story roleNarrative function at a stated campaign pointOfficial description, dialogue, document, or scene
Combat rolePlayable, ally, boss, or non-combat functionRetail encounter or explicit developer statement
AffiliationFaction relationship during a named periodDirect text or unambiguous official premise
WeaponDisplayed or equipped toolOfficial name or readable retail interface, not visual nickname

A visually elaborate fighter may be a boss, ally, rival, demonstration opponent, or story-only figure. Character profiles should wait for context before assigning the label. If a named fighter later has a full boss route, the character page should link to the encounter rather than duplicate the tactics.

Spoiler policy for useful profiles

The top of each profile should cover identity, starting role, and information present in official marketing. A spoiler marker should precede later faction changes, deaths, betrayals, identities, and endings. Navigation cards should never expose those revelations in their titles or summaries.

Quest routes should tell the player what to do and where to go before explaining the story consequence. If a decision has mutually exclusive outcomes, state the decision point and save recommendation first, then hide the outcome details behind a clear warning.

What remains unknown

The complete English cast list, voice cast mapping, faction roster, relationship network, companion mechanics, quest outcomes, and final boss identities are not established by the current Steam description and cited official articles. The index will expand when those details can be tied to a stable source. It will not convert community speculation into placeholder biographies.

Name and alias handling

Character names can appear differently across subtitles, romanization, regional marketing, and earlier Phantom World material. The displayed English Steam name will anchor the canonical profile. Other verified spellings belong in an alias field and should redirect to that profile instead of creating a second biography.

If two similar names might describe different people, keep them separate in research until an official source connects them. Visual resemblance, shared weapon type, or a translated honorific is not enough to merge identities. This protects players from following a quest or boss instruction meant for someone else.

Continue by intent

Read Soul for the protagonist and campaign premise. Read Mo Yuan for the limited official profile of that named character. Use World for faction and setting context, Bosses for encounter evidence, and Updates for dated official reveals.
